Layers, layers, layers – seven winter trends that you need to know

Maison Margiela

If you aren’t lucky enough to travel to some far-away destination with tons of sun, then you need to deal with the fact that our summer days are over. And yes, I must admit that apart from sipping on cocktails at the beach, I will also miss my swimsuits and airy t-shirts from this past summer. But also winter has its positivity – no other time of year allows fabric to become more important than our own skin. We can finally wear our thick statement pullovers or leave the house in a pajama suit. Here are literally the hottest trends for AW season in an overview.

Statement Jackets

No, bomber jackets are not passé at all. It is well worth wearing a bomber jacket this season – but not a usual one. The more special, the better. The world needs statement jackets! Interesting badges and patterns allow such bomber jackets to become real eye-catchers. Saint Laurent and Versace have demonstrated in their presentations of their collections that bomber jackets can look very interesting and also convey a strong message.

Duffle Coats

You’re looking for something other than bomber jackets or just prefer a simple, plain coat? Nothing beats a coat that is warm and fits in perfectly with your style. With their duffle coats, Dior and Maison Margiela have brought fashion to another level and allowed us to enter a new world.

Metallics

Whoever can’t wait to put ornaments on the Christmas tree can already start by wearing glittery, silver shoes and coats. Never before has it been this legit for men (and trendy), to glitter like a Christmas bulb. The metallics style takes getting used to and is bold but brings variation into the classic winter colors. A change that is much needed.

Slouchy Trousers

Nothing beats skinny or slim-fit jeans but this winter will focus on a different type of pant: the casual, soft and airy pants are taking over the catwalks for the AW presentations and will be seen all over the streets this season. We’re not talking about the despised, unaesthetic Jogging pants, but the stylish pants that make this XXL size look good. Yes, they exist!

Tracksuits

Sometimes tracksuits remind me of hip-hop videos from the 90s. Sometimes it is precisely this style that is recycled and used over and over again and gets cooler every time. Burberry, Christopher Shannon and Astrid Andersen have been inspired by this tracksuit look and make it to a must-have for this season.

Hippy Grunge

Hippies also live during the wintertime. Alessandro Michele from Gucci has showed that hippie vibes belong to the cold seasons. Valentino and Lanvin also believe that is can be fashionable and hip at -10 degrees Celcius.

Pyjama Suits

Yes, it is time again to spend your whole Sunday in bed and binge watch your favorite TV shows (at the moment I am addicted to Quantico, starring the amazing Priyanka Chopra). But what if you want to go out for a cup of tea when you’ve finished an entire season of your favorite show? Wearing pajama suits out in public is close to normal in cities such as Paris or Milan, so it most definitely is time that men start using this trend and allow themselves to be inspired by Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino and Gucci. Let’s hope this winter’s a good one! Karim
